On Sabres And Champagne

So, Mr. SipSwoosh, on a business trip to DC, fancies a glass of fizz in his hotel.

He updates his Facebook page saying the barman couldn’t open the bottle, so now he’s called the sushi chef.

“Send for the wife with her sword!” quips a friend. For I can now open a bottle of Champagne with a sabre. (more…)

A Jolly Bolly Contest

Everyone has their price. Turns out, for me, it’s a bottle of Bollinger Rosé NV Champagne.

I was sent one to help promote a Facebook competition called “Travel with Bollinger Rosé”. (more…)

Le Fizz, C’Est Chic

It’s a glorious early summer evening. I’m 28 floors up at Galvin At Windows in London’s Park Lane, overlooking the Queen’s back garden. And I have a glass of the newly-released Bruno Paillard 2002 Blanc de Blancs Champagne in hand.

For me, any brand emotion is quickly negated when I sip another glass of indifferent acid with bubbles like ball bearings because “it was on offer”.

Give me a glass of interesting, anytime. You can choose from the list below… (more…)

If This Film Were A Wine 2012

Last year, I had a bit of fun matching wine to films during the BAFTAs and then again for the Oscars.  As it turns out, these were two of my more popular posts of the entire year.

So, with the 2012 BAFTA film awards almost upon us here are my recommendations of what wine to drink with each movie nominated for Best Film and Outstanding British Film. (more…)

My Wine, My Rules…

The other day I met a friend for dinner in a pub. As we studied the wine list, she set out her rules. No Chenin Blanc of any kind. No Pinot Grigio. No Sauvignon Blanc unless it was a really full, fruity number. In other words, she didn’t like very dry wines and had decided these grapes were the worst culprits, denying herself the pleasure of, say, a Vouvray or a Pinot Gris from Alsace.
