A Cote D’Or Delight
I’ve only just got round to drinking the Francois D’Allaines Saint-Aubin 1er Cru “Sur Gamay” 2006 I bought last year from The Wine Society.
Which is a shame because they’re now out of stock of this Cote D’Or lovely from the Cote de Beaune. 2006 was an very good year for Burgundy whites, and this wine had both the plump fruit and good acidity characteristic of the Cote D’Or whites of that vintage. Light gold in colour, the nose was full of apples, lemons, toasted hazelnuts and butter. It tasted of soft yellow apples in fresh lemon juice drizzled in vanilla cream and topped with nuts. And stones. It cost around £24 and was worth every penny.
